HIV
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a viral infection that can be sexually transmitted. When someone becomes infected with HIV and does not receive treatment , the virus weakens and damages their body’s immune system so that it cannot fight off infection.
The HIV virus can only be detected by blood tests. HIV can be passed from person to person by unprotected sex (vaginal or anal), sharing needles, and from mother to baby during birth and breast feeding. HIV can be successfully treated with medication, but not cured.

What is PrEP?
PrEP is a pill that protects you from HIV. LiSH now offers PrEP free on the NHS under the national roll-out programme. If you believe you are eligible and wish to access this please contact the clinic to arrange an appointment by ringing 01522 309309.
